Built during a period when independent publishing on the internet still felt optimistic and creatively alive, Simplecast began as an attempt to make audio publishing simpler, cleaner, and more human-centered. What started as a product for creators gradually became part of a much larger conversation around media, distribution, platform dependence, and creator independence.
As the founder, my role spanned product, design, systems thinking, and long-term product direction. Much of the work centered around reducing friction — not only technically, but psychologically. The goal was to make publishing feel calm, understandable, and reliable in a space that was quickly becoming noisy and overcomplicated.
I learned how to grow a company without marketing and a strong partnership with Apple (Thanks James & Steve). It took me to Apple HQ multiple times and gave me a front row seat at the forefront of podcasting, establishing my voice in the industry. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work face-to-face with juggernauts like Condé Nast, Harvard, IBM, Rolling Stone and more.
Over time, Simplecast grew into one of the leading podcast publishing platforms and was eventually acquired by SiriusXM and Pandora. Looking back, I’m less interested in the scale of the company than the original idea underneath it: building tools that help people express ideas clearly and participate more freely on the internet.
